chance to fulfil their full potential.
Her family were on the "cusp of fracturing”, and she was at "severe risk of homelessness" before the installation of a Kids Under Cover studio helped change her life for the better.

Nicole is 23 now. When she was ten years old, her father passed away from cancer.
Losing a parent is hard at any time of life—but she was just a little girl. The loss was devastating for Nicole’s mum, Krys, who already had longstanding health issues. So Nicole found herself in the position of not just a grieving daughter, but also a carer.
To make matters even tougher, their three bedroom family home was far too small for Krys, Nicole and her siblings, and moving out wasn't an option.
"Our house is a special place," said Nicole. "We’ve lived in it our whole lives. It’s full
of warm, happy memories of my dad. If all that had just fallen apart, it would’ve
been devastating.”
There weren't enough bedrooms for everyone so Nicole's mum Krys was forced to sleep on the couch. The living room essentially became a bedroom. There was no privacy or space for any quality time together.
When there isn’t enough space at home, young people like Nicole can find themselves thinking they have no other option but to leave. But without a stable income, or without familiar supports, moving out before they are ready can be a tipping point for sliding into homelessness.
The gift of a studio transformed Nicole's situation and made an incredible difference to her entire family.
“Before, home was stressful and chaotic. With mum sleeping on the couch, it
was taking a toll on her. We wouldn't really go out to the lounge because she
was asleep in there. But now, everything is different,” said Nicole.
“To know that this was my little place, my little sanctuary, and then for mum to get
her own space back in the house. It's all been positive and really helped us in a way
that we needed."

We build relocatable, one and two bedroom studios, with a bathroom, in the backyard of a family or carer’s home.
